14 Days Nature & Culture Trek Tour : The Trail of the Monpa Yak herdsmen
Includes Wildlife Safari at Kaziranga National Park
Itinerary: Version 01
Day 01: Fly to Guwahati and drive to Tezpur
Fly Kolkota / Delhi to Guwahati. Arrive mid day. Transfer by car Guwahati to Tezpur. 181 kms on National Highway in 3.30 hrs. Overnight at hotel.
Day 02: Drive Tezpur to Dirang, 1600 m
Drive to Dirang, 211 Kms in 06 hrs, The journey is along a very scenic road traversing forested hills, and crossing over the Nichephu pass to the Tenga Valley. Traversing the Tenga Valley, the road climbs up through a series of hairpins to the town of Bomdila, located at a 2800m high passof the same name. hereafter the road descends to the picture postcard Dirang Valley at 1600 m, which is our destination for the day. Overnight at Hotel in Dirang
Day 03: Dirang Valley sightseeing
Today we will spend the day exploring this picture post card Valley. We will be visiting. An ancient Monpa Village and Gompa, the Kalachakra Monastery, Sangti Valley to get a peep into the life styles of the Monpas, and see their unique method of agriculture. Overnight at your hotel.
Day 04: Trek Dirang – Lubrang, 3100 m
After breakfast , drive 6 kms to the road head to start the trek.. Start trekking climbing all the way anong a good trail through forests, cultivation and grazing meadows to the village of Lubrang - a small village set in a meadow and inhabitated by nomadic monpas. Amonst these people a wife is allowed more than one husband. Overnight in camp set at 3100 m. elevation.
Day 05: Trek Lubrang – Naga GG. 4000 m
Short 04 hrs trek to Naga GG ( Grazing ground). The trek up to 4000 m is a steady climb on a good track. Some effects of altitude will be felt as you ascend rapidly. We will arrive at this bowl like grazing ground for yaks, set amidst tree line forests by lunch time. Camp here for acclimatization. Half day to explore surroundings. Overnight in camp.
Day 06: Trek Naga GG to Schumshuk, 4100 m
It is a 06 hrs trek along an undulating ridge along tree line forests to the Indo- Bhutan Border, 4100 m, . Good views of the, valleys in Bhutan, The famous Sela Ridge dividing Dirang Valley and Tawang region, rising up to 4900 m is clearly visible. In the distance can be seen the India -Tibet border ridges dominated by the Gorichen Peak, 7600 m. This is the highest peak of the Eastern Himalayas. Overnight in camp.
Day 07: Trek Schumshuk to Shivigang, 4200 m.
Today we will continue our trek along the undulating ridge line close to the Indo -Bhutan border, gaining some elevation but remaining below 4200 m. We will be traversing grasslands with thinning trees. It is a long day of 07 hrs of trekking to our campsite for the night.
Day 08: Trek Shivgang to Bankhajang Gompa, 4900 m
06 hrs of hard climbing will get us to the Sela Ridge where this isolated Buddhist temple is located at 4900 m It is a place of pilgrimage for both the Indian and the Bhutanese. The majestic surroundings are covered with alpine flora of Rhododendron bushes and Juniper bushes. In the surrounding area, there are more than 100 Alpine lakes. Overnight in camp.
