Hidden amongst the palm trees on the shores of Lake Vembanadu, at the mouth of the Kavanar River this Heritage resort is set on a coconut plantation in the very heart of the backwaters. It can only be reached only by boat.
The accommodation consists of individual cottages called “tharawads” – the traditional wooden house of Kerala. Many of the cottages are well over a century old. They have been rebuilt from dismantled pieces of old “tharawads” All cottages vary in configuration. Some of the newer air-conditioned units are replicas with fragments of old “tharawads” that could not be saved in their entirety.
Coconut Lagoon offers two types of cottages: Heritage mansions and heritage Bungalows. The mansions have an upper level bedroom with magnificent views of the lake. The bungalows are compact single level structures. Both are furnished in Aiyny and Jack wood, and retain the charms of original family homes with thick solid doors, intricate window carvings and terracotta tile floors. Coconut Lagoon’s cottages feature modern bathrooms, each located in an inner courtyard with its own banana (or coconut) tree - so you can shower “al fresco” under a starlit sky in complete privacy.

Emerald Isle Heritage Villa is an ancestral Country House set in 7 acres of secluded grounds. It is located on an island amidst the lovely backwaters, 10 kms from Alleppey town. The island is resplendent with exotic flora, breathtaking flowers, myriad birds and butterflies.
You arrive by boat and step into an eco-friendly world of birdsong and bountiful nature, where cool breezes murmur through the coconut palms. The villa dates back 150 years and retains its original architectural features, mostly in teak, with splendid woodcarvings. The Villa offers peace, privacy and pure relaxation. There are only a handful of guest rooms. Each is furnished in hand made furniture crafted more than a century ago. Modern en-suite bathrooms have been provided.
The kitchen offers delicious meals using locally-grown spices and herbs, local fish, Chicken, Duck, and other specialties of the region. Mouth watering vegetarian dishes, are a feature of the menu. You may visit the ancient temple or the famous Snake Boats, participate in traditional paddy harvesting, and visit the 1000 year-old Saint Mary's Church. There is a chance to watch the process of tapping toddy- a local alcoholic drink taken from the coconut trees, visit the local pottery factory, and also see coir products being made.
