Maximum altitude: 5060 m
Fly from Delhi to Leh. 02 days Buddhist sightseeing tour around Leh followed by 02 days drive to Padum in Zanskar via Kargil. Trek for 08 days between. Zanskar and Ladakh. Reputed as one of the hardest trails because of the great number of ups and downs. No less then 8 passes, and extremes of weather - hot sun, strong winds and high snowy passes. The trail follows the age-old trade routes, through ancient villages with white Chortens, and vast open spaces. It is a journey between desert, green valleys, and mountain ranges with arid peaks. There will be long walking days under blue skies, among spectacular, snow-peaked mountains and remote valleys of ochre, reds, yellows and greens. After the trek drive back to Leh via Lamayuru, before flying out from Leh to Delhi.
Day 01:Arrive Leh, 3506 m
Early morning flight from Delhi to Leh. Transfer to hotel and rest for the day.
Day 02: Leh Sightseeing -Shey, Stok, and Thiksey
Day trip by jeep visiting Shey Monastery, Stok Gompa , museum, and Thiksey Monastery. Overnight at hotel in Leh
Day 03: Drive Leh to Kargil, 2817 m
Drive 231 kms. Dramatic scenery along the Indus Valley till Khalsi, and thereafter crossing over the 4147 m high Fotu la, and Namika la, 3760 m to reach Kargil, 2817, in the Suru River Valley. Overnight in hotel.
Day 04: Drive Kargil to Padum, 3650 m
Long drive of 14 hrs by a spectacular road to Padum, crossing over the 4450 meters high Pensi la. Overnight in camp
Day 05: Trek Padum to Karsha, 3600 m
04 hrs trek over a dusty plain. Cross Doda River by a bridge. Overnight in camp at Karsha, 3600 m. 15 th Century Gompa dominates the scene.
Day 06: Trek Karsha to Pishu, 3470 m .
Trek 05 hours along easy stretch on the hot and dusty bank of the Zanskar River to Pishu, 3470 m. - a traditional Zanskari Village with friendly people. Overnight in camp.
Day 07: Trek Pishu to Hanumil, 3380 m
05 hours trek along the Zanskar river. Easy going along the river, across plateau. Steep 02 hours climb to the hamlet of Hanumil, 3380 m. Camp at the opening of the Zanzkar River gorges .
Day 08: Trek Hanumil, 3380 to Parti-la, 3900 m to Snertse, 3850 m.
06 hours trek. Climb steeply away from the gorges to the difficult climb to the 3950 m Parfi la, which marks the boundary between Zanskar and Ladakh. Thereafter steep descent to Oma-Chu River. Followed by another steep climb and traverse on an exposed trail to the camp- site near village of Snertse, 3850 m. Wonderful views
Day 09: Trek Snertse, 3850 to Hanuma-la, 4700 m to Lingshed, 3900 m.
07 hours trek reputed as “the longest and hardest day”. Long, gradual ascent towards the Hanuma-la. through difficult gorges. To the summit of the Hamuma-la, 4700 m. Thereafter a 1000 meters steep exposed descent, followed by a 300 meters climb along the mountain side to reach another small pass on the rim of the Lingshed Valley. Easy descent to Lingshed, 3900 m. Camp near the Gompa.
Day 10: Trek Lingshed, 3900 to Margum la, 4100 m to Kiup la 3850 m to Sengge-la high camp, 4550 m.
6 hours trek. Start with easy climb for 04 hrs to Murgum-la 4100 metres. Continue climbing, cross an escarpment then continue along the slope. Wonderful landscape. View across the Zanskar River, of the Nierag Valley is awe inspiring. Descend along a gentle slope to the villages of Gongma 3840 metres and Skiumpata. Continue up a very steep climb to the Kiupa-la 3850 metres. Continue climbing gradually along the to rocky camp at the foot of the Sengge-la. Spectacular views back across Zanskar.
Day 11: Trek High camp, 4550 m to Sengge-la, 5060 m to Photoksar, 3750 m.
07 hours trek. Steep 02 hours climb to the Sengge-la, 5060 m. Fine views of glaciers. Short descent to a broad valley followed by a gentle climb to the Bumiktse-la 4200 metres. Lovely views. Descend to Photoksar, 3750 meters - a picture post card village. Overnight in camp.
Day 12: Trek Photoksar to Panjilla. Drive to Leh via Lamayaru
Trek 03 hrs along narrow trails through spectacular gorges to Panjilla . TREK ENDS. Drive 124 Kms by jeep through high Ladakhi scenery to Lamayuru monastery and Visit the monastery and drive along the Indus Valley back to Leh. Arrive in time for dinner.
Day 13: Leh: Day trip to Hemis
Day trip by jeep to Hemis Monastery. Afternoon explore bazar. Overnight at hotel in Leh
Day 14: Leh- Delhi
Transfer to airport to board your flight to Delhi. TOUR ENDS
