The Bamboo Resort was built to integrate a blend of Sikkim’s colorful art and architecture with modern comforts.
The resort is located in splendid isolation 26 Kms from Gangtok, close to the Rumtek Monastery. In 3 acres of oxen ploughed paddy fields and clumps of bamboo, it has refreshing mountain views. Hosted by a Swiss-Sikkimese couple Helen and Topgay the resort has been aptly described as a East meets West sort of place. Buddhist Monastery like exteriors rub shoulders with grey marble interior floors and Feng Shui bedrooms with low double beds, and interesting dining facilities.
There are 10 rooms - each room is decorated individually with different color themes according to Feng Shui, the ancient Chinese science that prescribes ways of living in a state of harmony and balance with the environment. Most rooms have a balcony overlooking paddy fields, Gangtok is seen across the valley with the distant snow-capped mountains in the background marking the border with Tibet.
The family run resturant serves Sikkimese as well as Indian and Continental cuisines. Fern, wild yams, stinging nettle, fermented mustard leaves, or even orchids are a selection of the exotic fresh ingredients used in Sikkimese cooking, prepared with fresh, seasonal, locally and organically grown vegetables. The furnishings are traditionally Sikkimese combined with western sitting-arrangements crafted of cane.
There is a well stocked library, video room, meditation Room, Ethno botanical herb- and vegetable garden . It is an ideal base for exploring Rumtek and surroundings, Ranka monastery at Lingdum, taking quite walks, and uphill treks to get a glimpse of Mount Khangchendzonga, mountain biking, and sightseeing trips around Gangtok.
