The Surroundings
Samthar is off the usual tourist circuit. The surrounding area is ideal for a walking holiday, away from crowds. You can visit ethnic villages inhabited by friendly Lepcha, Nepali and Bhutia families. Our local guide will introduce you to the local folks.
Many mountain streams tumble down to the valleys. Samthar River has lovely cascades and pools.
We have seven one - day easy to moderate treks and walks available. The choice enables all age groups to enjoy the countryside. Trails lead to picture post card ethnic homesteads, vast forests, meandering mountain streams, deep valleys, a 100 years old Lepcha temple, and a catholic mission.
The views are unforgettable, and the photo opportunities are many. You have a chance to interact with the local folks and get a peep into their lifestyles
Activities
You can just relax, see the clouds drift by, watch the hill folks lead their leisurely life, and marvel at the bright starlit sky, while you listen to the silence. If you are looking for an active holiday here is what you can do
Ethnic village exploration walks
Three half day walking tours to homesteads, village shops, Eco friendly agriculture, Shaman and nature doctor, village forests, and meeting local people.
Trek to the Lepcha Valley
A full days trek, visiting remote habitat of the Lepcha tribe, and their over hundred years old temple. Can be extended to two days with overnight camping for more interaction.
Forest Exploration trek
Spend a day hiking through forests, with incredible bio-diversity. Also visit a small forest habitation of Nepali settlers.

Samthar River cascades and pools
Walk through terraced fields, ethnic homesteads, and forests, to spend a day of fun and frolic at Cascades, waterfall, and natural river pools.
Teesta Valley trek and ropeway crossing
A four hour walk through forests, terraced fields, and homesteads, to the Teesta Valley to cross over a ropeway and transfer to a jeep on the highway.
Rilli Valley trek.
A full days trek through the scenic Rilli Valley to Kalimpong or vice versa. This is an alternative route whilst arriving or departing.
Bird Watching
Take daily birding walks with our guide from the farm house for casual bird watching . However to visit "hot spots" in the remoter areas you will have to camp overnight. Our birding packages include "Hot spot" remote birding packages ranging from 3 to 6 days with overnight camping and birding guide. You can also explore virgin areas with our birding assistant.

From Kalimpong by Jeep in 04 hrs, visiting Lava Monastery, and Kapher heritage forest. Option of two nature & culture treks enroute.

From Kalimpong trek via the Rilli Valley in 06 hours.

From Kalimpong by jeep via Teesta Valley. Option of river rafting enroute followed by 04 hours stiff climb

From Bagdogra Airport or NJP Rail station, by jeep via Bagrakot in 05 hours.
All these routes can also be used whilst departing.
